Last Friday, the council chamber of Terralba hosted the MEDSEA meeting with the Terralba Municipality to officially introduce Wetland4Change. The event brought together key governance figures including Mayor Sandro Pili and the Councilor for Environment and Productive Activities, Maura Mura.

The MEDSEA Wetland4Change project team, lead by the engineer Manuela Puddu, with Terralba stakeholders presented the Wetland4Change’ activities, which aim to test and validate — with the help of leading experts in the field — the carbon sequestration performance of the Marceddì lagoon and the San Giovanni pond. The project will also demonstrate the capacity of these wetlands and their surrounding areas to regulate and control flooding, one of the main climate impacts for both people and the ecosystem in this area.
“Climate change is unfortunately a reality that those working on the ground face daily,” says Manuela Puddu. “However, we’re witnessing a growing awareness that these challenges can and must be tackled collectively, joining forces to adequately adapt to a future of change.”, says Manuela.

In May, MEDSEA will host the international Consortium meeting in Sardinia, bringing together all project partners to further develop these key initiatives. This event will also kick off field surveys in the Terralba wetlands, an essential step for collecting the data needed to ensure the project’s success.

Mayor Sandro Pili expressed his appreciation for the initiative, stating: “We thank MEDSEA Foundation for the scientific and technical work they are conducting in Sardinia, especially in the wetlands of the region of Oristano. Our territory deserves the maximum attention both for its environmental value as well as for its productive potential. This is why it is crucial to keep a balance in this matter for a full sustainable development.”
