The 28 of November, Wetland4Change team will be meeting local stakeholders at Oficina de Gestió Tècnica del Parc Natural de l’Albufera | Valencia | Spain
The Spanish partner of the Wetland4Change project University of Valencia is organizing a Local Event with stakeholders of the Albufera to speak in details about the importance of wetlands and how our project sustain the conservation and restoration of 5 European sites including Albufera wetland.
Why attend?
The recent flooding in Valencia is a reminder that such catastrophes can happen anywhere. Wetlands serve as natural sponges, absorbing excess water and reducing the impact of heavy rainfall that our urban infrastructures cannot handle. By protecting and restoring wetlands, we can regulate flooding and limit the damage caused by extreme weather events.
Additionally, wetlands play a crucial role in carbon sequestration, contributing to the global effort to reduce atmospheric carbon and support the resilience of our regions.
Today more than ever, we must accelerate the capacities of wetland managers and policy makers to deal with the climate crisis at the local and international levels as well. The first step is to increase cooperation with competent authorities and local stakeholders to increase their knowledge on these valuable ecosystems.
Are you in Valencia or near to?
