Our story

Since 1970, almost half of the natural Mediterranean wetlands have been lost due to human activities such as agricultural intensification, urban sprawl and water resources overexploitation. Wetlands play a crucial role in providing essential ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration, flood regulation, and biodiversity support.

Recognizing the urgent need to protect and enhance these natural habitats, the Euro-MED Wetland4Change aims at restoring and conserving Mediterranean wetlands through innovative, science-based solutions. By implementing and validating wetland-based strategies for carbon sequestration and flood regulation across five pilot sites in Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, France, and Spain, the project seeks to bolster the resilience of wetland ecosystems.

The project was initiated with 6 partners from 5 countries in the Euro-MED, engaged for the protection of our environments.
