Wetland4Change Carbon assessment in Camargue, Franc

Wetland4Change is undertaking a comprehensive assessment of carbon sequestration capacity across five selected pilot wetlands in the Euro-Mediterranean region. This initiative aims to generate robust scientific evidence on the role of wetlands as natural carbon sinks, with particular attention to their variability under different ecological and management conditions.

The project seeks to quantify both current carbon storage and future sequestration potential under various restoration scenarios. The selected pilot sites represent a diversity of wetland types and socio-environmental contexts, enabling comparative analysis and the identification of best practices.

The ultimate objective is to support the integration of wetland conservation and restoration into climate change adaptation and mitigation policies at regional and national levels. By demonstrating the climate benefits of healthy wetland ecosystems, Wetland4Change contributes to policy alignment with international frameworks such as nature-based solutions and ecosystem-based adaptation.
