Wetland4Change is advancing the assessment of flood regulation capacity across five selected pilot wetlands in the Euro-Mediterranean region. To support this effort, a dedicated technical guidance document has been developed, providing a structured framework for mapping and evaluating the flood regulation services delivered by wetland ecosystems.

The guidance builds on a comprehensive review of widely applicable GIS and Earth Observation (EO)-based methodologies used to monitor wetland conditions and their functional capacity to mitigate flood risks. It integrates the analysis of key biophysical variables such as water retention, soil characteristics, and vegetation cover with spatial assessments of flood hazard exposure.
