From research to replication:
Wetland4Change is moving into its transfer phase: the knowledge and solutions developed and tested during the project’s first phase are now being shared with new partners and sites. The first training session, held on 23 October 2026, focused on the project’s carbon-sequestration solution.

Led by Dr Carlos Rochera of the University of Valencia, the session introduced the different methodologies developed for assessing carbon sequestration in wetlands. The approaches use different levels of data and tools.
Wetlands can act as natural carbon sinks, but their carbon-storage capacity and sequestration potential vary with ecological conditions and management. Wetland4Change’s work aims to build evidence that can support wetland conservation and restoration in climate policies.

The training is part of a broader effort to transfer project knowledge to new sites in France, Spain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Italy and Greece. Soon, the new partners are expected to organise workshops with their local stakeholders to present their plans and discuss how to integrate the solutions.
By sharing methods and experience across sites, Wetland4Change is working to make wetland-based climate solutions more widely applicable.
